Northamptonshire’s health and care organisations are working together to develop a social prescribing service for the whole of our county.
Social prescribing is a way of helping people to manage their own mental and physical health by referring them to local community-run services like leisure activities, social groups and healthy lifestyle advice.
Northamptonshire Health and Care Partnership hosted three local engagement events on 18, 19 and 20 June in Church Brampton, Daventry and Corby, to help us shape what a social prescribing service will look like in Northamptonshire.
All three events were very well attended with the wide range of delegates from across the county including:
- Potential users of social prescribing services
- Health and care professionals who could be involved in prescribing
- Potential providers of social prescribing services
- Those involved in the commissioning of social prescribing

What happens next?
Our community engagement has helped us to develop a full business case for a county-wide social prescribing service. This business case was unanimously supported by the governing bodies of Northamptonshire’s CCGs in August, and then approved for funding in December 2019.
NHCP is now moving forward to plan the implementation of Northamptonshire’s social prescribing service in 2020, and this will include further engagement with patients and service users, carers, health and care professionals, the voluntary and community sector and the general public.
Further engagement events are planned for spring 2020, but in the meantime you can share your comments about social prescribing with us by completing the form on the right.
